Fasting for a Change Contest

Date January 8, 2009

Heads up everybody! My new personal blog is up and running at anitasblog.com. Titled Fasting for a Change, this will be a limited-run blog where I’ll be chronicling my adventures and mayhem while I participate in a medically supervised liquid fasting program.

.

To encourage everyone in their pursuit of living a healthy active life and to celebrate the blog’s focus on health, exercise, and weight loss, I’m going to be holding a contest with an incredible prize, a brand new still in the box Garmin Forerunner 50. This special SisterFriends prize bundle includes the following: Garmin Forerunner 50 watch, heart rate monitor, shoe pod and cycle cadence sensor and mount. Total value? 150 dollars!

Contest Rules

You are invited to submit a personal story dealing with any aspect of your life as a  GLBTQ Christian. You can focus your story on coming out, living in the closet, same-sex marriage, being queer in seminary or as a member of the clergy, reconciling your faith and sexuality, painful or joyful experiences with the church, or any aspect of your personal journey that would be in keeping with the focus of SisterFriends Together. Your story can be serious, poignant or funny. Just make it real.

  • Submissions are to be between 1000-1700 words. (To give you some idea my last post, “More Jesus, Less Religion” was 1720 words.)
  • Submissions are to be sent within the body of an email to anita@sisterfriends-together.org.
  • Submission content must be included in the body of the email. No email attachments will be accepted.
  • Submissions must be received by midnight on Sunday, February 1, 2009.
  • Anyone can submit up to two stories.

PLEASE NOTE: By submitting a story, you are giving permission for your story to be published on SisterFriends Together. This includes not only the winning entry but all submissions received. Consider this as you write the story and change any names, locations, or information necessary to retain your anonymity if that is a concern for you. Everyone will be contacted prior to publication of their story to approve editorial revisions and to determine how they will be identified as the author, whether by real name, pseudo name or as an anonymous guest blogger.

When the contest ends, I’ll read through each story and select five. These five will then go before a panel of three women chosen from my church who will select the winning entry. The prize-winning story will be announced and posted by February 22, 2009.

Don’t over think your story. Just let it come from the heart.

What in the world is a shoe pod?

Stephanie–> Big into digital fitness equipment, eh? A shoe pod is a thingy you attach to the lace of your tennis shoes. When you walk or run the pod tracks your steps and the distance you’re covering and sends the information to the Garmin watch. The Garmin then tells you your heart rate, how fast you’re walking, the distance you’ve walked, and counts your steps. Very cool stuff!
