I Survived Palm Sunday

Date March 16, 2008

I don’t know about you but there’s danger lurking at our church on Palm Sunday. The young children of the congregation are lined up on both sides of the main entry leading into the sanctuary and armed with porcupine-pointy palm branches twice their size that awkwardly slice through the air as the children attempt to keep them upright. Any adults determined enough to enter into the worship space must be brave enough to risk permanent retina damage and puncture wounds to their upper appendages by passing through this gauntlet of children wielding foliage weaponry. No wonder Jesus rode a donkey. Safety in elevation.

Despite Palm Sunday perils, what a joy to be standing on the edge of Holy Week!

I had to laugh when I read this. I remember being that child holding the palm leaf and trying so hard to keep from hitting someone. On the other hand I remember trying to hit a couple of people as they walked into the church. Good memories, thanks for the post.
