Internet Explorer Sucketh

Date October 29, 2008

For the past two days my WordPress Stats have been dismal, cut by more than half of the usual visitors to the site. These facts led me to the most obvious conclusion. No one liked me anymore.

And then the emails started arriving. “What’s wrong with your blog? It won’t open! Anita, I love you and every word you write is like a pearl of wisdom that drips with honey and….” Okay, I just made up that last part in an attempt to heal my bruised and battered ego.

The problem? Internet Explorer. You know what they say. “If it’s not one thing, it’s Internet Explorer.” Seriously people, if you’re still using Internet Explorer it’s time for an intervention. Stop. Right now. Go and download Mozilla Firefox. It will take three minutes of your time, cost you nothing, give you a more visually appealing view of this blog, and above all else, you will be making ME happy and isn’t that important to you? I know it is.

So go. Get Firefox and then come back. I’ll be here waiting for you.

Pearls dripping with honey are too sticky for me. Takes forever to get off the keyboard, especially when so rapt that an immediate meditative reply is in order.

But if it’s any consolation, I think it might be something wider, since my WordPress blog didn’t work at all, and it was, according to the server, an internal problem. Related?

And how many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop?

Bon—> So you’re suggesting it wasn’t just me??? You’re saying that I’m not special??? Sigh.

    Oh. I almost forgot.

Terri–> Welcome to the new dawn of technology! Now, how about getting rid of your Walkman cassette tape player and trying one of those new-fangled mp3 players? :)

What? You mean that I have to give up my LP’s? Just kidding :) I in fact do have a MP3 player with over 500 songs on in, just have a hard time getting it to work right!

Terri–> Mmmm…you might look for the “on” button. It should be there somewhere on that fancy-schmancy new gizmo of yours!

Okay, IE (internet explorer) is still telling me it needs to abort but at least I can read your posts now. Thank goodness, I was having anita withdrawl. Don’t forget some of us are in the dark ages and still on DIAL UP so I guess it is to be expected. LOL Glad to see ya back,

LOL!!! Well, my dear sister friend… I actually can’t believe that you are just now joining the FOX craze. I FINALLY got my office mate to download Firefox just this week after hearing his woes week after week with I.E.! I discovered the joys of Firefox a couple years ago. Love the fox!! ;) Welcome aboard!! :D

It also opens just fine with Safari. I’m having problems with IE opening your site, but Apple insisted on downloading Safari when I wasn’t looking (alongside iTunes, when I was looking), so try it thataway.

YEAH for Eliz and Anita! Firefox is awesome! Thank you!

Kelli, download a different browser other than Internet Explorer. It will probably take you a bit to download Firefox, but it works great and it’s free!

And for those insisting they stay with Explorer (scratching my head in morbid curiousity), then please either upgrade to 7, Beta 8, or Chrome. I’ve tested version 6. It doesn’t open the site. I’ve tested version 7 and it works but only once you get the first error message and then hit the browser back button. I haven’t tried Beta 8 but I’m assuming Chrome works okay. The point of upgrades is to stay current with the other coding and scripting around the internet. I’m thinking older versions might be the issue for some as this problem times with my recent upgrade to the WordPress system and that’s when the compatibility issues kicked in.

Of course, ever the logician, I wonder. If people cannot open your site, then can they read these helpful tips on your site about how to open your site?

Bon—> LOL! I know. I was laughing about that very thing earlier. So hey, all of you who can’t read this, do something about it!

“It will take three minutes of your time….” Okay 52 minutes later, I finally have firefox. Anything to make you happy. ;) And yes I said dial up. (Stone ages I know)

Oops…and just after I fixed the problem!!!! LOL. Timing is everything! The problem it seems was in the red border around the videos. I used a feature in YouTube to add the border and in the past it’s always worked fine but the last two times I did it, their automatic customizer inserted bad coding for the border (which conflicted with IE) that I’ve since fixed so hopefully everyone, whatever their browser, will be able to read this. Can you? ;) And by the way, I’m still pushing for Firefox for everyone. I do not retract nor disavow the title of this particular post.

OMGosh – why am I *not* surprised that Internet Exploder blew up? ;)

(I was a FireFox gal, now I’m a Chrome convert – but Opera is as good as the 2 of them put together.)
