My Number One Woman
May 10, 2009
How could I not include a “Mommy and Me” photo or two on this Mother’s Day, especially since I’m fortunate enough to be spending the weekend in the company of my much loved maternal unit. On this day as it always is I give thanks for having been raised by such a strong and caring woman who’s taught me just about everything I know about being a loving and faithful spouse and who provided me with the best possible example of all it means to be a woman of God; an example I’m still trying to grow into.
Maybe one day. When I grow up.
So to you my dear Mom, who walked beside Dad so devotedly every hour of every day for more than 60 years and who continues to relentlessly love her family and her God, I say thank you for everything. I owe you big.
And even as I celebrate this day with my mom, my heart is with all of you who are separated from your mothers, whether through death or conflict. For the first I pray comfort and peace; for the later forgiveness, healing, and reconciliation. May it be well with your soul and with that of your mother.

Joni–>So do I
A few months before my dad died he took all our family photos (hundreds of them!) and scanned them into the computer and then put them on CD’s for us kids. it’s been such a great gift to look back over the years and hold onto each photo and the memories they bring up. While I don’t remember when the photo was taken in the pool I remember as clear as day when we went down to the river to ride on a family friends boat and Dad had mom and I stop on the dock for this snapshot.

Thank you for sharing a glimpse of how wonderful moms can be, and for the prayer for those of us who are suffering from separation from the kind of mother that is so vividly portrayed in your words, and in the photos. And yep, that grin is not only cheesy, it is priceless!
P.S. I’m going to search my memory a little harder to find a moment or two like those.
