Simply Too Sad
May 22, 2008
By today most of you have probably already heard about the tragic death of Steven Curtis Chapman’s five year old daughter Maria on Wednesday. I was going to blog about it this morning (Thursday) when I first heard read the news but I was scheduled for a 13 mile training walk and so instead I went out into a gloriously beautiful day and walked and walked and then walked some more, and as I walked I listened to Chapman’s music, prayed for his family, and thought about God. Mostly I thought about my personal theology when it comes to understanding an omnipotent God in the midst of human tragedy. I’ll fill out my thoughts on all that a little more in an upcoming post but for now may we pray together that in this time of overwhelming grief, may the Chapman family be surrounded by the nearness and compassion of a God who weeps with them.

Thank you Anita for posting on this heart wrenching event! When I heard yesterday I was just speechless… until I went into the postal place I frequent and the owner had Christian radio on and S.C.C. was playing, and then we talked about the unthinkable tragedy. My prayers are with the Chapman’s!

I too feel for the Chapman family. And all those who are enduring suffering no matter the cause, especially those so dramatically effected by violent weather. When we can not see God’s hand we must trust His heart. May He up hold them now and always. And may we demonstrate our love for God by showing it to those who are in need. Amen.
