SisterFriends Writing Contest Gets Sweeter!

Date January 27, 2009

Okay. I get it.

Since there’s only been one submission for the SisterFriends Writing Contest, it appears I’m going to have to sweeten the prize booty to lure you in.

Along with the full Garmin Forerunner Sports Watch bundle, I’ll also be including a 40.00 Starbucks card and a rainbow set of 6 bangle bracelets from Bead For Life. In addition I’m going to move the deadline for submissions from February 1 to February 20.

Go to the link in the first paragraph to refresh yourself on the details of the contest. Remember, this is just about writing a small essay about your story as a GLBTQ Christian to include in the SisterFriends Personal Stories archive. Just so you know, of all the posts I’ve written, the ones that seem to have had the greatest impact on the lives of others are the stories women just like you have shared with others. I can only tell my story and my story doesn’t connect with everyone. Your story might be the very thing they need to read that will give them hope and let them know they aren’t alone in their journey. Don’t minimize the power of your story or that you even have a story to tell. You do.

I am working on one. I am a terrible horrible last-minute procrastinator… but you will hear from me!

As a compliment to your site, your writing has been a breath of fresh air and you have spurred me to write my first comment ever on any blog site (and, if my techno-inabilities flare up, I may be the only one reading this!). Thanks, Anita, for all of your writings. I have only recently started to come out to myself and am working on the reconcilation of my faith and being. Feeling somewhat frazzled by the ambivalence I feel about this new journey, I decided two days ago to take myself less seriously on this subject and to have some fun… so each morning for the next season (a week? a year?), I am flipping a coin after I turn off my alarm and letting my $1 Sacajawea coin decide if I am going to celebrate lesbianism as a gift of God with tons of love to share with myself and others (heads) or if I will let myself explore my doubts, fears of consequences in my community, and ambivalence (tails). And, wouldn’t you know, it’s been tails for the last 3 days… but, since I made the rules, as of tomorrow I’m letting myself keep flipping until I get a turn on the “celebration” of heads!

TW2–> So let me get this right. The coin has been landing on heads which means you get to celebrate being gay as a gift of God OR it’s been landing on tails so you’ve been left for the past three days exploring your doubts? it’s been tails then I’m sending you a two-headed coin to place that Sacajawea coin because apparently it’s broken. Either way I’m SO glad you took the step to post!
