Weekend Links on Wednesday

Date August 20, 2008

All around it seems to have been a quiet week among bloggers; at least among those I regularly follow, which at last count on my NetNewsWire was hovering around 65. Frightening isn’t it? I don’t have time to read the newspaper and yet I have no problem carving out chunks of time to devote to queer blogs, mommy blogs, foodie blogs, faith blogs, marathon blogs, nonsensical blogs, and your blog. But then it’s summer people and so it’s probably good for us to crawl out into the fresh air and sunshine every now and again before returning to bask in the artificial glow of our computer screens like the glassy-eyed moles that we really are.

As for me, aside from obsessively checking my RSS feeds and Facebook, I’m enjoying my last bits of summertime as well, filling every free hour with bike rides and walks, sitting outside with book in hand, gratefully ogling the blossoming magenta crepe maple in front our home, watching the squirrels race across our back fence and plotting and planning an End of the Summer Silly Sports Saturday for the children at my church.

But I haven’t forsaken thee so fearest thou not (KJV). Even as I ramble away on this sorry little post I have a few others with actual substantive content sitting in draft form, including my remaining entries on queer (Christian) sexual ethics. I’m only waiting for a day of bad weather (either too hot or too cold would qualify) to keep me at the computer long enough for inspiration to slap me upside the head so I tackle the necessary editing and polishing before publishing them.

For the 2 of you faithful readers (my stat report rounds that up to 289 each day this month but I figure most were unexpectedly tossed here by Stumbleupon) I have a few fun links to occupy your indoor time while that sunburn of yours continues to peel.

  • Don’t forget to keep your mouth closed to avoid bug splatter.
  • Days with My Father. Graphically stunning and emotionally powerful.
  • That’s Not All Folks! To see more, just replace the number in the URL with any number from 1 to 43.
  • If you love books like I love books…
  • I hope you laugh rather than feel offended. If the later, I disavow all knowledge of this link and whoever put it here, shame on you! (Seriously, as with all YouTube pages, do yourself a favor and ignore the comment section. Knuckleheads.)
  • A yummy drink for the warm days of summer.
  • And finally, if you’re self-obsessed or incredibly vain, try your hand at creating a personalized avatar of your adorable mug.
