Yippee Yippee Another Contest!

If I have 1 tee shirt by LifeIsGood I’ve got 10,423 of them. That’s a rough estimate of how many I’ve bought over the years though the figure could be considerably lower. Or not.
I love the simplicity and the whimsy of their designs but most of all I love the core message; life is good, and for the most part that’s been my experience. Even when life is cruddy (I should copyright that slogan before one of you steals it!) it’s still good if I pause long enough in the difficulties immediately before me to consider the wonder and brilliance that comprise the bulk of life.
In the photo to your left are three of my Life is Good tee shirts. The back of the yellow and white ones are blank. The blue one has the word “Optimist” and the number “7″ like a football shirt on the back. All are sized “women’s extra-large” (aka extra-beautiful) and all are in pristine condition because no one does laundry as skillfully as my wife. I’m not kidding. I do laundry and everything comes out pink and two sizes smaller than when it went in but D can take a pile of my played-in, cooked-in, eaten-in tees and make them look so new that I’ve come to suspect either she really is replacing them with exact replicas from a surplus inventory she’s hidden in the garage or she’s practicing some form of ancient laundry voodoo which, not that I think about it, would explain the odd chanting and smells of burning sage coming from the laundry room.
Wow. That was a scary glimpse into the way my mind can wander at will.
So here’s the deal. Between now, whenever now is for you as you’re reading this, and Wednesday, July 1, which is hopefully not after Wednesday, July 1, in which case you snooze, you lose, I’m inviting you to contribute a list of five things about your life that are good in the comment section of this post. The five things can be anything. Eating frozen candy bars on a hot summer day makes my life good. My life is good because I know with the deepest of assurance that God loves me. Silly or spiritual, it makes no difference. Whatever floats your boat. As you contribute them, I’ll post them, and we’ll all enjoy them. Then on Thursday, July 1, I’ll pick one at random from out of my ever-so dykey baseball cap and the following day I’ll send out the triple tees to the winner along with a bonus mystery prize. There you go. Have at it!
[Note to self: Avoid blogging when the temperature is over 100 degrees as the excessive heat apparently snaps your synapses, causing you to ramble incoherently.]
Update: I just realized that our friends of the male persuasion might want to play and not be so inspired by the idea of winning a triple hit of women’s tee shirts, so in the event a guy wins the drawing they will receive a Peet’s Coffee Messenger Bag, manly and yet oh so fashionable.

A list of five things about my life that are good
I’m alive! (recent glimpses of that not being the case makes me appreciate it more)
My Daughter (an amazing blessing)
Being married to My Wife/Partner/Spouse/BFF – (another amazing blessing)
Being the Pastor of a church that is as in love with me as I am with them
Butter Pecan Ice cream – the first real food I tasted after months of no food.

Life is good (1) because I know that deep down inside Jesus loves me. (2) I have a safe place to live (3) Chris loves me (4) Hawaii has great beaches (5) I have a great group of friends

Life is good because……
I live in freedom.
I am married to a wonderful woman who loves me deeply.
I get to share everyday with two incredible kids who teach me so much.
I have met some pretty cool people throughout my life.
I get to be a part of this amazing thing called life.

1. Life is good, ’cause we live in California and are lucky enough to be part of the good that gets to stay married. (we’ll keep working on the rest)
2. Life is good, ’cause a disease they’ve been working on a diagnosis for me, finally has one, and it’s not nearly as bad as feared.
3. Life is good ’cause even as I age my hair my redhair and I love it as it’s a significatint part of my “self”.

Oops forgot last two…….
Life is good ’cause my wonderful golden retriever Bonnie has lived another great6 years with cancer.
Life is good, as I am much more financially secure than most.
Life is wonderful as I am love by many.

Life is good because I am married to the person who completes me mentally, physically, spiritually and emotionally.
Life is good because I was able to spend years getting to know my kids while homeschooling them, being a part of their daily discoveries, and seeing what makes them tick.
Life is good because my amazing wife has taken over the homeschooling and I get to watch her experience the same joy of discovery with the girls that I’ve gotten to experience over the years.
Life is good because I get to serve God and serve people as a job. How cool is that?
Life is good because I have been given a gift of “otherness” that allows me to relate to such a diverse group of people.

Life is good:
1. my utilities cost too much
2. my co-workers complain and whine all the time
3. my teens lay around watching tv most days
4. I’m overweight
5. my email and facebook inboxes have more mail than I can read in a day
How is this good??? Because:
1. I am warm in the winter and am cool in the hot summer
2. I HAVE a job!
3. My teens are in my house and not out on the street doing whoknowswhat?!
4. I have enough to eat
5. I have so many loving friends and family who want me in their lives!

Life is good:
1 There is beauty all around me and I really see it!
2 The small diamond rain droplets collected in perfect sequence on my clothesline.
3 The gorgeous green leaves that fill the Maple tree in front of my window.
4 The soft perfect burnt orange petals on the poppies in full bloom by the river I swan in.
5 Life’s wonderful little surprises that make you stop and realize all that you have!

I’m the healthiest I’ve ever been in my life and just getting healthier!
Strawberries are in season and very tasty!

Life is good because…
I am loved..and loved..and loved some more..
I can love ..and love..and love some more..
Wimbledon is on (tennis) and I am home to watch it..
My lovely son has a place at college in the fall and a job for summer
God is good all the time..
and last but not least..I can finally enter a contest with at least as much chance as anyone else..and there is a prize that’s not only cool..but would actually fit!!

1. There are wonderful communities of loving, welcoming people
2. We can do so many beautiful, creative things with our bodies (for me it’s dancing and martial arts!)
3. God loves us and continues to work in surprising ways even when we give up hope

Tough contest! So many things come to mind. I guess the best way to handle this is to just do a “flow of consiousness” thing. So here goes. Life is good because…..
….I know I am loved by God and by special people in my life

some of these may not be very original but they are why MY life is good:
1) I wake up most days and remember to thank God for another great day to be here and feel His love and presence. To be fully known and fully loved is a wonderful blessing. I am still working on remembering to say “thank you” everyday…
2) I have been through some very hard times the last year or so…and there are some really good things that come out of that process….I know my friends are my true friends and they put up with me and loved me even when I was a pain to be around. Life is good when you have love and support from family and friends.
3) There are some wonderful new people I have met and been led to the last 18 months….new friends, new aquaintances….just some good solid folks…it gives me hope in the future to know that there is a wonderful world out there…new possibilities…
4) Life is good ….because of family….seeing my grandchildren’s faces light up with they see me and run to me….is amazing!! Just last week the youngest one at a year toddled up to me wanting to be picked up saying something that sounded very much like a form of “grandma”. Had two of the older ones tell me last week that they wanted to live at my house. It also reminds me of my own grandmother and the special times I had with her….what a circle this life is…
5) I am blessed at home….with a home where I feel safe. A home where I can relax, where I work(not always fun) where I can garden and be creative..with my dogs who love me and give me love the way only our furry “kids” can…
Oh no…that is 5 and I didn’t mention that I am in the best shape I have been in for decades (I can run!!)(do you have anything in a size small?) and that I do love my chocolate-peanut butter- carmel protein bar…I have one most days and I look like a little kid with the chocolate all over my face and hands but man is it yummy!! Life is truly good!! I am so blessed….thank you for reminding me!

Life is good because
In His timing, and His timing alone, He makes all things beautiful, even me.
He answers prayer, like when He gave me a son
He is just and fair, yet full of grace and compassion – a true mystery
I have a job helping people that I love
He has given me some new friendships that have touched my heart

Five things:
1. hearing the sound (voices) of the people I love when I am so far away
2. sitting back, relaxing, and enjoying the peace and quiet of the day.
3. Life is good because has allowed me to visit and work in some of the most beautiful and awe inspiring places, ie, Yellowstone national park, Grand canyon, Yosemite.
4. life is good because God gave me the chance to live after fighting for my life as an infint. And here I am 37 years later.
5. Life is good because I know that I love and am loved by special people, that were placed in my life for a reason.

Life is good in my little world because…
1. Each day I get up and look out of any of my windows and see the Rocky Mountains in my back yard…and from most other places I go to during my day.
2. I get to enjoy lattes, good friends and great conversation
3. I realize that God loves me in unfathomable personal ways and continues to protect me
4. I have been given the chance to expand my mind, life and increase the boundaries of my existence to love like I never have before
5. I am hopeful that through much pain and sorrow something is beginning to emerge that is far more of a blessing than I could have ever imagined. Go God!!

1. i have a roof over my head and am safe.
2. I have a dog that loves me
3. I have some friends who love me.
4. God loves me even when others dont and I dont
5. I have opportunities to meet with God even when I cant find God in church

1. I am alive after surgery for a brain infection 9 months ago. I would not have made it through the darkness of many long nights without an awareness of God’s abiding presence.
2. I have loved the same woman for 25 years and live in a country where we were able to legally marry on the 20th anniversary of our commitment ceremony in 1983.
3. I have a community of faith, queer and straight, who love each other through all the disagreements and pain through which every community travels.
4. There is sunlight outside the window right now, shining through the green leaves in an amazingly beautiful way.
5. I walk with Jesus.

4. My sweetie is in the house

Life is good when…
* my ancient and amazingly loyal dog gives everything he’s got to faithfully follow me room to room
* the summer monoon rains release what I consider the smell of hope — the pungent scent of greasewood in the desert
* I can spend an hour telling my out-of-state nieces silly stories on Skype
* my laundry is done, dishes washed, house cleaned, bills paid, and I now sit on my porch swing drinking wine with a new friend
* I can advocate for the downtrodden and see their burdens become lighter
