SWANNONOA (WLOS) – A local non-profit organization is traveling to Kentucky to help those devastated by recent tornadoes.

Hearts with Hands volunteers were helping load a semi-trailer with supplies into the organization’s warehouse in Swannanoa on Monday morning.

Three volunteers are making the trip and will be on site in Mayfield, Ky., Until midweek to distribute items to those in need.

The organizers of the effort say they will meet with others to set up a distribution site when they get there.

“Everything will be on deck once we get there and try to pack those food boxes and hygiene kits and even Christmas presents for these families,” said Hearts with Hands volunteer Alyce Lentz and media coordinator at News 13 Monday. .

The association is partnering with two churches in Kentucky to help those who have lost everything.

They bring boxes of food, water, hygiene items, baby supplies, and even Christmas presents to hand out.

“Most of them not only lost their homes and homes, their food and shelter, but they also lost their Christmas presents,” Lentz said. “So we want to be able to give them a wrapped gift as well as a box of food this time around.”

Volunteers will assess residents’ needs once there and may coordinate additional trips.
