The Cattaraugus County Health Department reported a newly diagnosed case of COVID-19 on Sunday.
The county total for those who test positive for COVID-19 is 5,705. Forty-five residents are hospitalized with COVID-19; 12 people are hospitalized and 5,555 have recovered. One hundred and five people died from complications related to the disease.
As the end of May approaches, Cattaraugus County is on track to record its lowest monthly total of COVID-19 cases since October, when the tally was 251.

As of Saturday afternoon, the county had reported 308 cases in May. The counts for the remaining months of 2021 are 616 cases in April; 359 in March; 595 in February and 1,200 in January. As of December 2020, the total was 1,427, the highest number recorded by the county since the start of the pandemic. The November 2020 total was 656.
The daily number of reported cases in the county has been 10 or less since May 19.
The county’s seven-day positivity rate was 1.3% on Sunday, and the rate of county residents receiving at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine reached 40%. The number of quarantined contacts was 114, up from 106 on Saturday and 173 on Friday and 223 on Thursday.
The person who tested positive on Sunday is a 20 to 29-year-old woman who lives in the southeast quadrant of the county, has symptoms and had no knowledge of contact with someone who tested positive for the virus.
Since the county began tracking COVID-19 cases last March, more women than men have tested positive for the coronavirus in the county. The figures are 3,047.53.4% for women and 2,658.46.6% for men.
In addition, more residents who tested positive reported having had no known contact – 3,134, 54.9; those reporting the known contact number 2,571, 45.1%.
The majority reported experiencing symptoms – 4,447 residents, 77.9%. The number and percentage of those who were asymptomatic are 1,258 and 22.1%.
The southeast quadrant of the county had the highest number of cases overall – 3,066.53.8%. The numbers for the other quadrants are 692, 12.1% in the northwest; 1,089, 19.1% in the northeast and 858 15% in the southwest.

Western New York Region
The region, which includes Cattaraugus County, reported a daily average positivity rate of 1% and a seven-day average positivity rate of 1.1% on Saturday. Of the 7,468 people tested on Saturday, 78 were positive. More information on the condition is available here.
