Effingham County Health Department announces 3 COVID-related deaths, 311 new positive cases

Effingham, IL-(Radio Effingham)- The Effingham County Health Department (ECHD) is saddened to announce three more COVID-related deaths of county residents. One of the individuals was in his 40s, the other in his 70s and the third in his 80s. Only one of the individuals was vaccinated, but they were overdue for a booster dose. These deaths bring the number of confirmed COVID-related deaths in this county to 122.

The Effingham County Health Department also announces that 311 new cases of COVID were reported Tuesday through Thursday. When the latest figures are added to the 112 cases from Friday to Monday, our weekly total is 423.

Distribution of cases in the last 7 days; only 18% of cases were up to date with their vaccinations, 67% were totally unvaccinated, while 15% were not up to date with their vaccinations. Reinfections accounted for 11% of all cases, of which 72% were unvaccinated, 11% were up to date with their vaccinations, while 17% were not.

Illinois Region 6’s 7-day rolling test positivity was up 19.4% through Jan. 25, with Effingham County at 21.5% for the same period. The availability of intensive care in our region is down to 14%.
