The Beauregard health system expands the emergency department
Lake Charles, LA (KPLC) – Plans are underway for the most recent expansion of Beauregard’s healthcare system. The hospital is expanding its emergency department to meet the growing demand for health care.
Lead developer and resource manager Kelli Broocks says the expansion is long overdue.
“The current emergency department has eight rooms and was built to serve approximately 13,000 to 14,000 patients per year,” Broocks said. “We currently serve over 20,000 patients per year in these eight rooms, so we have long moved beyond our existing facility.”
The new facility will have larger treatment rooms, contemporary nursing stations, as well as a separate area and entry points for infectious diseases and patients with mental disorders. The state-of-the-art facility is designed for productivity and efficiency.
“We’ll have a centralized nursing station, more contemporary workflows that will allow us to welcome more patients, of course, and have a safer environment and better patient experience,” Broocks said.
CEO Traci Thibodeaux said the hospital is already technologically advanced and the new facility is the next step towards improving healthcare.
“We have regularly invested in radiology equipment and have just launched state-of-the-art electronic health,” said Thibodeaux. “We have the technology. Now we will have the footprint to truly support improved workflows, protecting patient privacy, the patient experience, and protecting patient dignity.
The authorities hope to innovate in 2022.
