Waco: MCC expands scholarship program
WACO, Texas (KWTX) – McLennan Community College is expanding its scholarship program for high school students.
The college will pay for tuition and fees for students in the top 10% of their high school classes, while also offering “Rising Stars” assistance.
“This new McLennan Rising Star scholarship is for 11-20% of high school students and it’s a 50% scholarship for tuition and fees,” said Dr Stephen Benson, vice president of finance and administration.
The pandemic has inspired MCC officials to find even more ways to lend a helping hand.
“A lot of our students are working students,” Benson said.
“Maybe they lost their jobs and it was difficult for them.”
In addition to its existing COVID relief funds and other financial aid programs, MCC officials hope to remove financial stress from the university, rewarding students for their hard work in high school.
Officials also hope that the scholarships will increase enrollment. too much.
“Our enrollments are still down a bit since the pandemic, so we’re hoping all of these things will help increase enrollment,” Benson said.
“It’s good for us, but more importantly, it’s good for the community.”
MCC can also help former students, including those who might need help getting into debt, get back into the classroom.
